Inflight Warning Systems, Inc was formed in June of 2001 specifically for the purpose of developing a line of bearing vibration monitors for use in commercial aircraft. Flight diversions resulting from smoke in cockpit and smoke in the cabin caused by air circulation fan bearing failure has become a significant factor in flight operations.
The principles of Inflight Warning Systems were approached, prior to formation of the company, by a major US airline looking for a solution to thier bearing source smoke diversion events. The formation of this company, along with technical and stastical support of a major US carrier, has resulted in a product that successfully addresses the bearing failure prolem. No false shut downs have been reported to properly installed monitors.
